Oxfordshire ClimateXchange update #21 - Oct 07

 Climate Groups in Oxon - so much happening! Here's a taste:

  • Kirtlington - Have their next event on energy on Weds 10th Oct - see events list below.
  • East Hendred - screened an Inconvenient Truth to over 30 people to launch their village Environment Group, Contact Sarah James for more info sarahjames@f2s.com
  • St Margarets Church, north Oxford - screened ‘An Inconvenient Truth' to 60 people and had a successful ‘Living Green Fayre' on 29th Sept.
  • Wolvercote - Look out for low energy lightbulb libraries and buy a bulbs from Wolvercote farmers market, as community associations in Oxfordshire have won a campaign to get cheap low energy lightbulbs.Read the story here:  http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/oxfordshire/7021201.stm
  • Iffley Fields Climate Action (Oxford) held a party for around 40 neighbour s and friends on 23rd Sept, drank local wine, heard about and shared hot tips about local climate action and what they could do.   • Grandpont Climate group (Oxford) will be having their first meeting  on Tues 30th October, contact Caspar Henderson: caspar81@gmail.com

I COUNT COMMUNITIES MAP: NOW LIVE!


I count is the campaign of the ‘Stop Climate Chaos' Coalition, and they've mapped active climate change communities in the UK. Check out the map here: http://www.icount.org.uk/get_involved/explore_the_map/default.asp  and click on the button on the top of the map that says 'groups' to start exploring. If your group isn't there, contact them!

Transition Towns

Oxford Transition Towns have had a successful seed group meeting, and look forward to seeing you at the  ‘Power of Community Screening' on Mon 9th Oct. There's a facebook group, or to get on the mailing list and find out more contact mim@coinet.org.uk

Hard Rain

Hard Rain exhibition at Botanic Gardens. A photographic installation by Mark Edwards and Lloyd Timberlake to Bob Dylan's Lyrics. Exhibition is free with entry to the Garden - £3 http://www.botanic-garden.ox.ac.uk/

  Sustrans route opening

One of our partner organisations is celebrating the opening of a new section of cycle path. Route opening: Tues 9th Oct 11.30 am Oxford Station, 12 noon Whitehouse Road to celebrate the completion of the riverside towpath  Oxford City Council in partnership with Sustrans and part funded by WREN. Sustrans' Connect2 needs you

This UK-wide project aims to improve local
travel for everyday journeys in 79 communities and is competing for a grant of 50 million pounds in the Big Lottery Fund's Living Landmarks: The People's Millions competition. The winner will be decided by a TV vote in December 2007. Visit www.sustransconnect2.org.uk and leave us your details so we can update you about our progress.
