What motivates you about climate change?
Concern for our future - climate change is creating a very uncertain future for humanity. We are risking the destruction of ecologies, farmland, even cities, through changing climate, increased storms and rises in sea level. I want to make sure we still have a world we can enjoy in years to come, both for myself and future generations.

  1. What's precious to you in Oxfordshire?
The beautiful landscape and wildlife - walking through lush, green meadows to a chorus of birds. Snow in winter. Green parks to lounge in in summer, when it's not too hot. The farming community and their way of life. Rowing on the Isis and punting on the Cherwell. Watching the rain come down on a cold day from the warmth of a nice cafe. The cycle of the seasons.
  2. What's your vision of Oxfordshire rising to the challenge of climate change?
A community coming together, and people and businesses acknowledging their responsibility to create a certain future for the generations to come. People making an effort to cut energy consumption in the home, to recycle, and becoming aware of how the things they buy impact the climate. More local, seasonal produce available in the shops and supermarkets. Fewer large cars with only one passenger, more people on the bus and bicycles. New, energy efficient homes.
  3. What contribution to the challenge are you most proud of?
Telling everyone I know that I think this is a serious issue, and discussing with them my reasons if they feel differently. We can't tackle climate change without fundamental changes to the way we operate as a society, and I believe this will only happen through government action. However, in order to act, the government needs the support of the people, so I believe that the greatest contribution any individual can make is to support such action, and encourage people in our communities to do the same.
  4. What are you working on now?
I'm organising an event in Oxford to raise awareness of climate change. Called Mpower Oxford, it aims to inspire people to tackle climate change with art, photos, videos and informational posters on the issue, and to empower people by providing them with simple ways that they can cut their carbon footprint.
  5. If you had a carbon ration, what's your one essential item and why?
A ticket to the alps (the train will do) - I do love to ski, that is assuming there's some snow left.
  6. One word about how you feel about climate change?
    Inspired.
